Prof. Katagiri Seiji
After earning degree in Canada in 1996, I have been engaged approximately 30 years in clinical practice and research in the field of animal reproduction, with a focus on dairy cattle. In recent years, I have been working in the field of infertility caused by abnormalities in the regulatory mechanisms of the female uterus. Recently, as a countermeasure, I have been working to develop a new treatment option to address reduced fertility by utilizing the regulatory effects of substances found in bull semen on uterine function, and to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these effects. These studies are conducted with the cooperation of numerous farms, veterinarians, and various stakeholders involved in the dairy industry. Through this work, I have come to understand the importance of a team-based approach to improving farm management and am actively working to promote this approach. In addition to these domestic activities, as a lifework, I have drawn on my experience in clinical practice, education, and research in the field of clinical reproduction at the university to engage in collaborative efforts aimed at raising the standard of clinical veterinary education in developing countries.
