Professor Cheol-Heui YUN
Professor Cheol-Heui YUN grew up in Gwang-ju, a southwest of Republic of Korea. He was educated at the Chonnam National University for B. Sc. and the Seoul National University for his M. Sc. in Animal Nutrition. He obtained his Ph. D. at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada in the area of immune modulation and mucosal immunology. Then, he pursued his professional career at leading research institutes in different region of the world including International Vaccine Institute (IVI, Korea), USDA and NIH (MD, USA) and Gothenburg University (Sweden) where he undertook research related to stress, vaccine/adjuvant, infection and host protective immunity.
He published over 300 SCIE articles in prestigious journals, like Nature Communications, Science Advances, Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, Biomaterials, and others. He has also received the Cargill-KAST (Korean Academy of Science and Technology) Bioscience Award, Seoul National University Excellence in Teaching Award, and official commendation for from the Ministry of Science and Technology cabinet minister. Currently, he is a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) since 2023.
He has been a professor at Seoul National University since 2006, and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Animal Bioscience. He is also acting as president at the Korean Council of Science Editors (KCSE). He formerly served as a Secretary General of the Council of Asian Science Editors in the past. Professor Yun and his group are focusing the action mechanism and modulation of host immune responses, interactive mucosal immunity, and immunometabolism. His research focuses on innate immune cells that provide protective immunity. Studies on the development of vaccine and adjuvant against viral diseases are among the most exciting part of the studies with the concept of cross-presentation, T cell activation, and memory responses. Not only mice and humans but also domestic animals are essential in the Yun’s lab to achieve the goals, such as maximizing growth performance and health issues. In conjunction with mucosal immune regulation, nutritional immunology and microbiota-metabolism-host interaction are focal points in the laboratory.
