Professor Duong Nguyen Khang

Professor Duong Nguyen Khang received his PhD in Animal Nutrition and Management from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 2004. He became an Associate Professor in 2009 and a Full Professor in 2019. He currently serves on academic and training committees at Nong Lam University, Ho Chi Minh City, and is a member of the Vietnamese Biogas Association.

Professor Khang has published more than 110 scientific papers in national and international journals. His research focuses on animal nutrition, enteric methane mitigation, circular livestock systems, biodigester technologies, black soldier fly bioconversion, and sustainable resource management. Building on the Mekong Basin Animal Research Network programme, he has led numerous research and technology-transfer initiatives for smallholder farmers and commercial livestock enterprises across the Lower Mekong region. His work promotes the efficient use of local feed resources, greenhouse gas mitigation, alternatives to antimicrobial use, climate-resilient farming, renewable energy, and biochar applications.

He has pioneered nutritional strategies to improve feed efficiency and reduce methane emissions from cattle. He has also contributed to integrated circular livestock systems using black soldier fly technology to convert livestock manure and agro-industrial by-products into insect protein, lipids, and organic fertilizers. Professor Khang has led the development, installation, and technology transfer of more than 500,000 low-cost plastic biodigesters across Vietnam, supporting renewable energy production, improved manure management, and methane mitigation. His current work advances circular bioeconomy, climate action, and sustainable livestock development across the Asia-Pacific region.
